Some thoughts and ideas of a Jordanian living abroad

My kittens in the neighbours Mercedes SL July 20, 2008

Filed under: I think it is funny, days of my life — wonders @ 12:12 pm

Actually it is not really my cat, it is just a stray cat that i feed daily. I’ve known this cat since it was born and i watched her grow up, get pregnant (my cat daireh 3la 7al sha3erha) and have babies of her own, unfortunately none of the kittens made it.

So as i was saying I started noticing that the cat’s belly was growing, well actually before that, back in February I had the misfortune of witnessing the cat ehm make babies, eww eww. That’s why i noticed her belly easily. Days gone by and the belly was growing and growing and then out of the bloom one day the belly shrunk, I suspected my eyes have gone crazy, but then my friend who was with me told me that from the looks of it, it looks like she delivered.

A lazy Saturday morning, me and my friend who was visiting from Jordan were still sleeping, it was about 10 AM and the door bell rings. My door bell doesn’t ring unless i have ordered something. It was one of my neighbours, what the hell does he want?! i thought to myself. I opened the door and he apologized for waking me up, quite obvious, then he said: YOUR CAT has delivered her kittens in my car!!!

Reminding you that i am not a morning person, it took me a few minutes to comprehend, I was going to argue that it is not really MY cat, but then again i am the one who feeds it, everybody knows that, and that’s why it stays around our building. So i decided to tell him i’ll meet him downstairs. Me and my friend got dressed and went downstairs to the parking to see this

Yeah it was the cuttest thing ever! i reassured my worried neighbour that the delivery didn’t take place in his car, his convertable Mercedes SL, which of course he remembered to close every time he parked his car afterwards lool. Then was the tricky part, WE HAD TO TAKE THEM OUT OF THE CAR, sigh… i felt mean but we got a box, I tricked the mother in getting out by giving her food, then we moved the kittens to the box with her. She stayed there for a few days, i made sure she always had food, but one day she took them and left. She still comes for food, but I never saw the kittens again.

I have a thing for punctuation marks July 17, 2008

Filed under: bored to death, spreading my wisdom, what annoys me — wonders @ 3:59 pm

I cannot help but use punctuation marks while writing something, espcially if it is a work email. I even use it while chatting coz i think it really makes a difference when you are trying to read something. I think the most important marks are, well they are all important, but the full stop and the comma are really barely used.

The one mark that really bugs me is the exclamation mark and how much people use it in the wrong place. There is this person that i know that, I swear to God it is true, uses an (!) mark at the end of EVERY single sentence. So it feels like this person is constantly shouting at me, weird.

I thought i had more things to say about this but looks like i am done, enjoy the weekend people.

Early Childhood Memories: My Barbie Doll House! July 9, 2008

Filed under: days of my life — wonders @ 4:57 pm

Obviously humans don’t remember much from their childhood, me included, I read once that we can recollect memories from when we were 4 and almost anything before that is gone.

One of my earliest memories was back when I was 4 or 5 i don’t know exactly, my dad went on a business trip to Italy for I don’t know how long, but i remember that just before he got back he called us home and asked me and my brother what we wanted for gifts. My one year older brother asked for Walkie Talkies and for a microscope. Seriously where had he got the idea from?!

As for me I asked my daddy for a BIG Barbie house, with everything inside it, i wanted Barbie spoons and forks. I wanted a kitchen, knives you name it, I told him what I wanted.

Then I remember the day he came, he opened his bag and gave my brother 2 sets of Walkie Talkies, then he handed him the microscope. I was still waiting. After that he gave me a pink pair of pijamas with a scissor on the shirt and sth written in Italian, I asked where is my Barbie House, he said he didn’t bring it with him because it was big he had to send it by cargo. I only got the “he didn’t bring it with him” part and ran to my room crying! there was no way to convince me that the Barbie House was on the way.

I don’t know how many days passed, I only remember sitting in the back seat of our car next to my brother with the BIG box of the Barbie House on our knees and we were driving home from the airport. On the way we kept admiring the pictures on the box. Then I remember opening the box at home and my dad put the house together.

It was an amazing Barbie House, two stories with a full equipped kitchen! anything you can think of was there. It also had a mailbox, sliding doors and street lamps. All my cousins were jealous loool, and they all remember it until now.

I guess it is still in our old house, but all its small peices are gone, some parts of it are broken :( I wish it was still there. I am sooo gona spoil my future daughter(s) with Barbie stuff!!

I am no politician but… July 7, 2008

Filed under: My Jordan, not so random thoughts, on the real world — wonders @ 4:04 pm

I was never a political blogger, or considered myself well equipped with information to do so, however I cannot help but form this belief that this parliment is the worst in the Jordanian history since the seperation of the west bank, or at least that i know of.

I am not going to go into details because we all read news and thanks to certain bloggers who keep us updated, but this Parliment has corrupt, written all over it.

On the other hand maybe it’s just my imagination…

Here we go again!! July 6, 2008

Filed under: My Jordan, days of my life, shopping — wonders @ 11:47 am

I’ve booked my ticket, it is official, I am going on a two week vacation to Amman end of this month. So here we go agian! not the panicing part so far, just the crazy shopping dilema!

I managed to get my parents’ gifts out of the way yesterday, but the difficult part is yet to come. My sister, my brother and my two friends, probably I’ll get them clothes, shouldn’t be too much of a nightmare compared to the part where I have to get gifts for my 3 auntes. Two of them are my paternal aunties, they both live alone but in the same building, one of them is a widow with 3 grown up children who are married with kids, and the second one was never married. Now the tricky part is that i cannot get them the exact same thing if it was sth not edible because my stylish unmarried aunte is just stylish. The other problem is that I cannot get them two completely different things coz my widowed aunte is most probably going to be jealous of whatever i get my other aunte!! see the dilema here…

here’s where you people come in HELP!! give me suggestions please. last time i got two purses and just gave it to them and told them you guys pick! this time I don’t know what to buy.

Problemo number 2 is my maternal great auntie, great being my mother’s aunte, not a super aunte. So this old lady is just amazing, she’s achieved a lot in her life, God bless her, a lot of you probably heard about her too but i’m not going to mention the name. Now she’s old, unmarried, obviously difficult and is still active 7amdullah. Meaning she’s not sitting home all day, she is still going on meetings, events and a little bit of traveling. I also got her a purse the last time, a dressy black purse. She liked it, or so did my mother say, who’s now the only person who can actually read and interprut my auntes’ weird reactions. She’s very much into culture, art and tradition.

Yallah HELP people!!

Lasik, scared to do it!! :( July 2, 2008

Filed under: My Jordan, days of my life, on the real world, what readers think — wonders @ 11:52 am

I am going to Amman end of this month for two weeks only, however compared to my last two visits it is considered a long one. I am planning to have a corrective sight surgery, LASIK, because i have had it with contact lenses and I don’t like to wear glasses.

The thing is I am a bit scared, I know millions and millions of people have done it and are extrememly satisfied, but come on, the thought of it is still scary!! it’s my sight we’re talking about here.

The more I talk about the surgery with others and they reassure me, and the more I think of the convenience after loosing the lenses, I am becoming more and more confident. But still… :( not 100% sure.

Any advise?

Meet Ramiz, our imaginary work collegue :) July 1, 2008

Filed under: I think it is funny, bored to death — wonders @ 10:01 am

On a lazy afternoon, just after lunch break, a young lady storms into our office and asks if she can go in and see Ramiz in his office while pointing at the pantry which is like the smallest corner room you can possibly imagine, more than two people at a time in there is just way too much crowd. Oh and i forgot to mention that we don’t have anyone by the name of Ramiz working with us. lool. We explain the confusion and she leaves.

But that incident never left us! 4 bored employees, each believing they are the funniest of all, keep coming up with joke after joke… until finally a couple of days ago I decided to put up a sign on the door that says Ramiz’s Office with a cute drawing of a cat/rabbit whatever you’d like it to be.

So now Ramiz joins us during our internal meetings, on lunch breaks and is the subject of our constant laughs. Our other collegues keep coming in and just wondering who the hell is Ramiz loool.

If you don’t have an imaginary character in the office, be it a stuffed animal or an imaginary collegue i recommened that you go and find yourself one.

Hard luck Germany :p Oleeeeee Espania!! June 30, 2008

Filed under: football — wonders @ 9:36 am

Nothing much to say here, just rubbing it in the face of those German fans! ESPANIA ESPANIA ESPANIA “big croud cheering”

It was an amazing game beautifully played by the Spanish, although the game could’ve easily ended with more than one goal. As for the Germans, grow up will ya?? they played like 10 year old’s in the school yard, they kicked and hit, especially that “Captain” of theirs who left with eye stitches, well he had it coming!

All my other collegues in the office, the three of them, are German fans so today I am going to do some serious teasing!! I can be annoying with that you know…

Last but not least “another Spanish croud singing”

Oleeeeeeeee ole ole ole oleeeee oleeeeeee oleeeeee

The highlight of my day! June 26, 2008

Filed under: bored to death, days of my life — wonders @ 12:18 pm

I am not at my best these couple of days, due to my work load which is currently ZERO. I know i told you guys i have 3 events coming up and i might be away, which was the case for the past couple of weeks, in which i managed to finish phase 1, and currently i am just waiting around for feedback and input from everybody involved, and nothing is pending from my side. So i told my boss and his solution was to give me those stupid little tasks just to keep me busy until there’s somthing for me to do. Not so fun any more…

So back to the title, the highlight of my day yesterday, was while i was driving on the way back home, minding my own business and lane for that matter, a car on my side honks like 4 times, I looked and it was a car exactly like mine! same color, same tints even. I assumed that the driver was just saying Hi or sth, because for some reason us Zoom Zoom hatchback owners (putting it like that makes it so fancy) are very few and we RARELY bump into each other on the road. seriously since i got my car i only saw other ones like 5 times.

It is probably because it costs much more than the other cars from the same shape (hatchback), like the Tiida and the Yaris and it costs just a little bit more than the regular Mazda 3. So it is doesn’t have a lot of fans, but for me I liked it, and I liked the fact that they only have a few of them in UAE, makes my sweet little Zoom Zoom special.

Then Again s/he could’ve been honking for a completely different reason…

Bloggers are nosy people? June 25, 2008

Filed under: not so random thoughts, spreading my wisdom, what readers think — wonders @ 3:55 pm

I am sure that almost every blogger has posted a meaningful and infromation rich post at one point to later on just sit back and wonder why it recieved little interest from other bloggers compared to a previous post that was published during a moment of utter boredom and crazyiness, that is just a bunch of babbling of a personal experience, or maybe something simple as just telling what went on during the day.

I am not sure if there is a relation between this and the success of reality T.V shows, something like Star Academy for example, they have a dedicated channel that just goes on and on about what a bunch of young people are doing, and strange enough has a lot of fans.

So why are humans so obsessed with other people’s lives? everybody has a life of their own enough to keep them busy for a lifetime (don’t ask me about this), but we always find enough time to squeez our interest in other humans. hmmm… interesting.

Correct me if i am wrong..
